IS YOUR BUSINESS FIT TO EXIT?

Entrepreneurs, they call you creative visionaries for a reason:

You have a mind for big ideas + the courage to build businesses around them.

But are you ready to exit your business safely and quickly?

Don’t leave that up to chance.

The only way to end up with an ideal exit is to start planning and designing one now.

As the Clash once asked us in song:

l

l

l

l

l

l

l

l

l

l

When they kick at your front door

How you gonna come?

With your hands on your head

Or on the trigger of your gun?

Exiting your business is the same idea.

Who’s ultimately going to be in control of your exit?

You?

Or the “other guy”—your buyer, your partner, your investor, or a series of events that just “happens” to you?

If you want to exit on your terms...then you must take control of your exit process.

If you don’t take the time to design and execute your ideal exit … your exit will be less than ideal (if not downright terrible).

The truth is, if you haven’t clearly articulated and defined an exit vision … you don’t have an exit vision.

You’ve already started abdicating control ...which makes it likelier you’ll eventually be controlled.

By someone - or by forces - other than you. All that hard work will not culminate in you shaping the most important outcome of your business’s life-cycle: your exit.

This means you may have to:

👎 Settle for a lousy net payout—because your business structure was not set up efficiently from a tax or a legal standpoint.

👎  Be trapped in the grind of daily operations indefinitely—because no one believes the business can function without you.

👎  Scramble to execute any transaction that comes your way—because you didn’t get your ducks in a row ahead of time.

👎  Make endless compromises on the way you want to live your life—or worse, end up compromising the pursuit of your life’s purpose and passion.

There’s one simple reason you haven’t built your ideal exit strategy yet

“I love paperwork and legal mumbo-jumbo,” - said no entrepreneur, ever.

You became an entrepreneur because you’re creative and ambitious.

Not because you love legal and tax complexities, figuring out what changes to GDPR legislation mean for your data, or trying to remember what GDPR even stands for.

You know it’s important, but you’d rather do just about anything than spend your time and energy trying to figure out the details.

So you do whatever your CPA tells you to do.

You tell your lawyer, “Just give me something standard that protects me.”

You find a business broker and tell them, “Just find me the best deal.”

That’s when it all comes back to bite you, viciously, right in your most tender parts—your heart and your wallet.

But your exit story doesn’t have to end that way

The truth is that you can design an ideal exit that allows you to:

  • Maximize your net payout in a safe and realistic way.
  • Separate yourself from the daily grind of operations and have the freedom to live the life you want to live.
  • Protect your legacy and pursue your passions at a higher level.

All without the soul-sucking, endless carousel of opinions and documents and expert reports that often just contradict one another or leave you uncertain about what to do next.

We’ve taken our knowledge, expertise, and decades of hard-earned experience in helping clients successfully design and close high-stakes exits, and distilled all of it into a four-part proprietary formula we call Fit to Exit.

Over the course of 8 weeks, we’ll teach you our formula to help you create a customized, tailored-to-you exit map so you can achieve a safe landing at your desired destination.

It includes content from venture and intellectual property lawyers, certified business valuators, tax experts, life planning professionals, elite litigators, venture capitalists, as well as bonus content from entrepreneurs who have already exited their businesses, giving you real-life insight into the real-life, proven strategies you will be learning throughout the course.

All of the things you’ve disliked (until now) about designing your ideal exit have been jettisoned so you and your dreams can finally be at the heart of the process.

That’s what Fit to Exit is all about.

What type of exit do you want?

The way we see it, there are 3 things you can get from an exit...but not in equal amounts.

Maximize your Payout:

Seek the highest purchase price available to you.

Achieve Freedom:

Liberate yourself from the grind of day-to-day operations.

Pursue Purpose:

Pursue your purpose on a higher level.

The Fit to Exit course will help you explore all of the options so you can confidently design the exit that fulfills you best—whether it involves a sale to a third party, a partner buyout, or an internal exit to employees.

What You’ll Find Inside of the Fit to Exit Program

The course delivers 4 modules over the course of 8 weeks.

MODULE 1: Vision

(Clarify Your Unique Exit Vision)

Most business and legal advice about exit planning assumes you’re only interested in maximizing your net payout for your company. The problem with that advice is that it fails to take into account alternative outcomes: keeping the freedom to work within a certain industry or with certain people, the right to use any of the creative assets you originated, conserving a hand-carved role inside the company, and more.

In this module, we’ll focus on helping you answer the following questions:

  • What dreams and intuitions are behind your exit vision?
  • Why do you want to exit your business? What do you want your exit to achieve most —more money? Freedom? Purpose?
  • Who would be interested in buying your business, and why?
  • Would an internal exit to a partner—or key employees—be the most attractive option for you?
  • What is a realistic purchase price for your business? And what do you need to do to get there exactly?
  • What does this realistic exit vision mean in terms of HOW you will structure your exit transaction?

By the end of this module, you’ll have a clearly defined exit vision and destination.

Module 2: Vehicle

(Build the Vehicle to Get You There)

Now that you know where you’re heading, it’s time to build the right vehicle to get you there. (You don’t have to be Elon Musk to know you’ll never get to the moon on a rusty bicycle.)

In this module, we teach you proven strategies to:

  • Become more tax efficient;
  • Manage and minimize your liabilities;
  • Structure your partnerships for your exit;
  • Protect your tangible and intangible assets;
  • Acquire data and personal information safely, and
  • Make sure your contracts, and compliance practices enhance, rather than dilute, your readiness for your ideal exit.

When you complete this module, you’ll understand how to design and structure your business so it’s fit for your ideal exit.

MODULE 3: Velocity

(Accelerate Toward Your Exit)

This module is all about stepping on the gas, so you can gain the leverage to find and optimally negotiate your ideal exit.

That means your business will need to accelerate in some form:

  • Managing yourself so you become a more competent leader.
  • Increasing sales to grow your revenue.
  • Handling crises better.
  • Making your environment work for, not against, your business.
  • Discovering hidden potential for unlocking growth and profitability.
  • Making smarter decisions in times of technological and social change.

By the end of this module, you’ll learn how to safely accelerate toward your ideal exit.

MODULE 4: Victory

(Achieving a safe landing)

You can do everything (vision, vehicle, and velocity) right…but still have a crash landing. That is not an ideal exit.

In this module we’ll focus on:

  • Crafting your unique exit story so you can better communicate with your buyers and team of professionals.
  • Finding and cultivating relationships with the right buyers and middlemen.
  • Designing your ideal Term Sheet.
  • Negotiating your ideal exit transaction.

You’ll also get proven tips from seasoned pros on the finer points of negotiating your exit transaction.

Meet Fred Pinto, Your Ideal Exit Mentor

Video Poster Image

Hi, I’m Fred. As far back as I can remember, my life’s passion has been helping entrepreneurs build and grow successful businesses.

Over the last twenty years, I’ve helped hundreds of entrepreneurs big and small build their businesses, with many of them exiting successfully. Unfortunately, others did not. This became my motivation to create Fit to Exit—so that every entrepreneur has the tools and strategies needed they need to design their own ideal exit in real life.

I’ve lectured on intellectual property and business law at McGill University law school, and spoken for numerous professional associations throughout North America and Europe. I also advise government agencies on civil rights and data protection issues. I run an intellectual property and technology law practice where I help clients prepare their businesses for their eventual exits.

(Fun fact: I was the co-founder of a music technology start-up that counted Bob Dylan as one of its partners. Yes really!)

I created Fit to Exit to give you the proven tools and strategies you need to properly design and accelerate your business toward your ideal exit. You have a bigger picture you’re working toward. Let’s get you fit to exit so you can pursue your larger purpose.

Is Fit to Exit Right for You?

We believe every business owner should take the course, but we believe you should decide for yourself.

Fit to Exit is right for you if:

  • You’ve just started your business, and you want to get it right from the beginning.
  • You founded your business a few years ago and found your core value proposition, and you now want to make sure it’s fit for an exit...even if that means changing some things.
  • You have a co-founder, and you want to make sure you can still exit your business safely.
  • You’re sick of the generic templates, error-ridden cut-and-paste jobs, and (most of all) the jargon and gibberish of professional services. You want something real that makes sense to you.
  • You’re a lifelong learner who enjoys learning new things, especially if they improve your life.
  • You’re eager to exit your business in the next 18-36 months.

Fit to Exit is not right for you if:

  • This is your first entrepreneurial rodeo.
  • You’re a solopreneur in the services business, and you have no desire to exit your business one day (unless it’s feet first).
  • You’re confident you’ve already set up your business with your ideal exit in mind...or you’re not interested in doing so.
  • You don’t want to take the time to figure out what an ideal exit would look like for you, and follow the steps to get there.
  • You’re fine with taking whatever buyout you’re offered, or blindly trusting the professionals.
  • Your current business structure works well for you and you’re not concerned how it could have an impact on your exit.
  • You like learning new things, but don’t care to dedicate real time and energy towards learning.

Basically, it comes down to a simple decision:

Do you want to leave your exit to chance?

Or do you want to design an exit that’s aligned with your values—so when the right exit transaction presents itself, you’re ready to ACT on the opportunity to be financially, emotionally, and mentally free to pursue your life’s path?

When the time comes, will you be Fit for Exit?
